[English]

Background and Objectives: The accelerating advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has brought about fundamental transformations in educational systems. These transformations have made the debate concerning the potential replacement of human teachers and its pedagogical consequences a major concern in the field of education. This issue is of heightened sensitivity within the framework of Islamic education, where the teacher is entrusted with a multidimensional role that extends far beyond the transmission of knowledge, encompassing that of a behavioral role model, a moral educator, and a spiritual guide for learners. Thus, the fundamental question is whether AI technology can fulfill this existential, ethical, and pedagogical role, or if it is merely capable of performing certain instructional tasks of the teacher. The present study aims to analyze the relationship between the capabilities of AI and the pedagogical-ethical competencies of the human teacher from the perspective of Islamic education, and to clarify the extent to which AI can assume a role or serve as a substitute within educational processes. Methods: This study employed a qualitative approach based on comparative analytical methodology. Data were collected through documentary research and a purposive review of religious texts, sources on Islamic education, studies related to the teacher’s role, and specialized literature on artificial intelligence. Data analysis was conducted in two stages: first, the educational, ethical, and pedagogical components of the teacher were extracted based on authentic Islamic texts; subsequently, these components were compared with the operational and instructional capacities of AI through conceptual and thematic analysis. Repeated review of codes and constant comparison of findings enhanced the validity of the analysis. Findings: The results indicate that AI is effective in quantitative and computational domains, including personalized learning, analysis of educational data, rapid feedback provision, processing of extensive content, and conducting automated assessments, and can be employed as a supportive tool to improve instructional management. However, it faces significant limitations in fundamental dimensions of Islamic education, such as serving as a role model, compassion, spiritual guidance, emotional nurturing, establishing authentic human relationships, moral influence, and discerning pedagogical situations. These shortcomings stem from the absence of characteristics such as lived experience, intention, innate disposition, spirit, and pedagogical wisdom, which constitute the foundation of the human teacher's role and cannot be technologically simulated or replaced. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that AI cannot replace the existential and pedagogical role of the human teacher in Islamic education, but it can be used as an educational complement within a controlled and ethics-oriented framework. The desirable model is a "synergy between the human teacher and AI"—a model in which technology helps enhance instructional efficiency, while the teacher's central role in the moral and spiritual development of learners is preserved and strengthened.
